Feline & Canine ProBalance | Advanced Veterinary Nutrition

As veterinarians, we need to become more proactive in preventing the things that can affect feline wellness and prevent them from having a longer and healthier life. This means that we need to better understand the things that influence animal health the most genetics, environment, and nutrition. Hello. I’m Dr. Bill Barnett. Breeding for form rather than function has been proven to be detrimental to the overall health of the cat. Genetic diseases abound in our feline populations today. The environment poses numerous threats to our cats both indoors and out. as the primary health advisor we need to recommend that they feed a biologically appropriate diet something that matches the cat’s carnivorous digestive anatomy and physiology. Nutrition is the one thing we can influence the most. Cats should not be fed dry food. Dietary protein content must come from real meat and needs to be at levels consistent with their wild ancestors diet which would be in excess of fifty percent. We all know from our studies that the cat does not have any metabolic requirement for carbohydrate. Yet today’s feline diets are full of it, and the results are apparent. Obesity, diabetes, and lower urinary tract disease are big problems today. In addition to a biologically appropriate diet I recommend a completely balanced and concentrated nutritional supplement be included for daily assurance and to accommodate for those periods where nutritional needs increase. Supplementation provides the nutritional flexibility needed for optimum health. Just providing more food is not always a good option. I have spent the last 35 years developing nutritional supplements specifically designed to bring today’s highly processed maintenance diets into the realm of optimum. And if there has been one thing that I have learned from my long career without optimum nutrition complete feline wellness cannot be achieved. To learn more about the specific nutritional needs of the cat and how nutritonal supplementation can provide the flexibility needed to help meet different life stage or activity levels read the web section titled complete feline wellness with ProBalance.
