BSc (Hons) Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Chester

Hi, my name is Dr Tom Butler, and I am
the Programme Leader for the BSc degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, here at the
University of Chester. Our course is three years long with clinical
placements in each year of the degree. These placements give you the
opportunity to practice and refine your clinical judgement. We also use ward
simulations throughout the programme to build confidence in these areas and to
help practice these clinical skills, before you venture out into the real
world. On the course you’ll learn about nutritional science and how different
nutrients are metabolised by the body. You’ll also take a very detailed look at
behavioural psychology, really understanding why people make certain
decisions that can affect their health both positively and negatively. You’ll
also look at the role of nutrition in promoting health in individuals and
groups, and also look at how we can use nutrition to help treat and manage
clinical conditions. Our graduates go on to work in a wide range of different
areas, these include the National Health Service, but also include private
practice, the food industry, as well as public health. Nutrition and dietetics is a fast paced subject area and we want students who have an enthusiasm for
nutritional science and a desire to work with people. So if you have a passion for
nutrition and want a career that’s never boring, then please get in touch.
